Rumors of green road demolition untrue, local govt says

Online reports have alleged 100 kilometers of green roads around the city of Chengdu in Sichuan province are being bulldozed to turn them into farmland.
However, the Chengdu Park and Urban Construction Administration said on Tuesday the reports were not true.
According to the Chengdu City Ecological Annular Zone Master Plan (2020-2035), the space of Chengdu's ecological annular zone includes 67.33 square kilometers of cultivated land and 65.78 square kilometers of ecological restoration area.
There are no plans to turn all the ecological annular zone, the administration said, but the development of modern agriculture has always been one of the important functions of the zone.
Construction of high-standard farmland started in the zone in 2020 to improve the water system and farmland quality.
In the process of comprehensive land remediation, some netizens misunderstood and spread rumors that all the green roads around the city will be bulldozed and turned into cultivated land, according to the Tianfu Greenway Group in Chengdu.
