No COVID-19 clusters detected in Beijing

The intensity of seasonal influenza in Beijing is on the rise, but COVID-19 infections remain sporadic with no epidemic clusters detected, the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control said on Wednesday.

According to a CDC report on the city's epidemic situation, from Feb 13 to 19 the number of influenza-like cases in Beijing increased 91 percent from the previous week but decreased by 18 percent from the same period last year.

The positive rate in the reported influenza-like cases was 23 percent, significantly higher than the 4 percent from the previous week but lower than the 34 percent from the same period last year.

Of influenza viruses detected and subtyped this season in Beijing, 64 percent have been influenza A H1N1 subtype, 35 percent have been influenza A H3N2 and 1 percent have been influenza B.

The number of acute gastroenteritis cases caused by norovirus infection in Beijing was generally equal to that of the same period last year, meaning there was no large-scale outbreak.
