To further enhance the water supply to Jinmen in Taiwan province, China has begun construction on an over 3.1 billion-yuan ($456 million) water project on Monday, according to the Ministry of Water Resources.

A major part of the project is to build water diversion channels that will stretch a total of 53 kilometers and connect lakes and reservoirs, it said in a media release on Monday, adding three pump stations will be constructed along the route.

Efforts will also be made, it said, to enhance the conservation of water source areas for a water supply facility, the construction of which was completed in August 2018 to divert water from Fujian province to Jinmen.

The construction of the project is expected to last 41 months. Once completed, it will significantly enhance the facility's capability to supply water to Jinmen, it said.
