6 killed, 28 injured in East China building fire

Six people were killed and 28 others injured in a building fire on Thursday morning in Jiangsu province, local authorities said. The fire broke out at about 6:07 am in Weitang township of Xiangcheng district in the city of Suzhou, and was extinguished by fire crews about an hour later. Those injured in the blaze were rushed to hospital for treatment, among which two were severely injured, authorities said. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

Ex-CFA VP arrested for embezzlement

Former vice-president of the Chinese Football Association Wang Dengfeng has been arrested for prosecution over suspected embezzlement and bribery, according to the Supreme People's Procuratorate. The SPP issued a statement on Thursday saying that the Shandong Provincial Supervision Commission has concluded its investigation and transferred the case to the procuratorate. Wang, also the former head of the department of physical, health and arts education of the Ministry of Education, was placed under investigation in August last year.
