China's parcel service reports smooth holiday operations
More than 700 million parcels were collected and delivered across China during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday, the State Post Bureau of China said on Saturday.
During the period nearly 410 million parcels were collected, a year-on-year increase of 5.1 percent and 193 percent of the figure from 2019.
In the same period, 330 million parcels were delivered, up 10 percent from last year and 255 percent from the holiday in 2019.
Since the Spring Festival travel rush, which began on Jan 7, the sector collected 3.94 billion parcels, up 12.5 percent compared with the same period last year, and delivered 4.9 billion parcels, up 21.7 percent from last year.
During the holiday, the demand for agricultural products has also increased.
The sector's regulator has urged service providers to coordinate resources to ensure the network's effective operation, in particular to ensure medical supplies are received in a timely fashion. More than 3 million parcels containing medical supplies have been delivered during the holiday.
More than a million couriers have stayed on duty to ensure the network's operation during the festival, the bureau said.
