The China Meteorological Administration will set up a national climate observatory in the Qinling Mountains in Shangluo in Shaanxi province, to carry out scientific research on climate, according to a notice released earlier this month.
The observatory will assess solar energy resources and monitor extreme weather events in the region.
The Shaanxi Meteorological Service plans to finish building the observatory in 2027.
It will serve as the only observatory in the climate zone along the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River.
The Qinling Mountains run west to east across the country and divide not only northern and southern China, but also their climates, fauna and flora.
To date, there are 26 national climate observatories in China.
