Into the woods

Zheng's pencil sketches of candlenut and mango trees sit next to a chart detailing what to look for in Tai Kwun's trees during different months of the year. Blowups of newspaper articles asking if the Development Bureau is doing enough to prevent typhoons from uprooting ancient trees hang close to a sensor in a display box. Over 8,000 trees in Hong Kong have one of these attached. In case any of them begins showing signs of tilting, the concerned department will get the message.
"We try to provide new knowledge to our audiences," says Kwok. "We also want to give them something to think about: how they treat the trees around them; what they can do to protect trees; if there's anything the artists featured here have done that they could perhaps emulate in their own way."
