Bin Ying, drug detection dog, dies at age 12
Anti-drug warrior Bin Ying, 12, a detection dog at the Meng'a branch of Mengkang exit and entry frontier inspection station in Pu'er, Yunnan province, died in late August due to multiple organ failure.
Yan Yi, its feeder, said Bin Ying had good olfactory sense and was always the first to find drugs. The dog had helped seize over 50 kilograms of drugs during its term of enlistment until 2019.
The police decided to bury it on the back hill of the station, so that it can "still hear the whistle", Yan said. A farewell ceremony was held despite rain.
Li Weite, deputy director of the Meng'a branch, said Bin Ying spent its life protecting the border area and the people living there. The dog showed the spirit of bravery and fearlessness when fighting against criminals and drug dealers.
