China's Guangdong braces for Typhoon Ma-on

GUANGZHOU -- South China's Guangdong province is bracing for Typhoon Ma-on, which is expected to make a head-on landfall soon, with authorities initiating an emergency response at 5 pm Monday.
The provincial meteorological bureau forecast that Ma-on will pick up speed and strength as it approaches the southern coast of Guangdong over the next two days, bringing torrential rains.
The local flood control headquarters and emergency management department have ordered boats and ships to take shelter, and marine wind power construction platforms to take precautions.
