As the summer tourism market picks up rapidly, online and traditional travel agencies are developing diversified products and enhancing their services to cater to increased demand.

On June 29, an asterisk indicating regions with COVID-19 infections was removed from the online code tracking an individual's travel history.

Xiang Min, deputy general manager of the transportation department at online travel platform Fliggy, said: "This good news gave a welcome fillip to the summer tourism market. The number of requests for air tickets and hotel bookings continues to rise."

Fliggy offers lucrative flight discounts to lower travel costs.

Meanwhile, the number of air ticket bookings on the Trip.com Group platform from July 1 to 12 for parents traveling with children rose by 804 percent compared with the same period last month.

In the first 12 days of last month, the number of hotel reservations made on the platform for parents traveling with children was about 80 percent of the level witnessed at the same time last year.

Trip.com and its competitors provide themed tourism products at popular destinations to help visitors avoid the summer heat.

Countless parents use the summer vacation as an opportunity to travel with their children and enjoy family reunions.

Major operator CTG Travel provides tourism products targeted at those traveling with children of different ages, along with study tours that combine science and technology, and traditional culture and physical training.

Children learn to make intangible cultural heritage items. They also join outdoor sports activities and make friends of a similar age. In Beijing, experienced tour guides take children to the city's central axis, where they learn about the capital's history.

On a study tour to the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province, children experience the thrill of watching rocket launches and learn about the aerospace industry.

The Chinese tourism website Mafengwo recently unveiled a list of emerging domestic destinations for visitors to avoid the heat of summer.

The top five places on the list are: Liupanshui, Guizhou province; Anji, Zhejiang province; Enshi, Hubei province; Chengde, Hebei province; and the Changbai Mountains, Jilin province.

Data from Mafengwo show that young people, especially those born in the 2000s, are looking for unique experiences in niche tourism.

They prefer to stay in a remote minsu (a Chinese-style bed-and-breakfast establishment) in a mountainous area, or to take part in water sports such as paddleboarding and kayaking to keep cool at this time of year.

Many people discuss nighttime tourism on Mafengwo, such as visiting markets and attending live performances. Some scenic areas and museums have extended their opening hours to the evening, offering a range of activities for tourists.
