NPC chair meets with Tajik counterpart, stresses security cooperation
Top legislator Li Zhanshu called on Tuesday for further boosting security cooperation between China and Tajikistan to uphold regional security and stability.
Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature, made the remarks while meeting with Rustam Emomali, speaker of Tajikistan's upper house of parliament, via video link in Beijing.
Li hailed the development of bilateral ties, saying the unbreakable political trust between China and Tajikistan and their firm support for each other are the most valuable experiences drawn from their strong relations over the past years.
Noting China appreciates Tajikistan's resolute support for it on issues concerning the country's core interests and major concerns, he said Beijing will continue to support Tajikistan in pursuing the development path suited to its national conditions.
He underlined the need for both countries to advance mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, intensify their unity and collaboration on pandemic response and expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges between them.
He mentioned the Global Security Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, saying the initiative, which is guided by the vision of a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security, calls for a new security path featuring consultation over confrontation, partnership over alliance and win-win results over zero-sum games.
Both countries should work together to raise the level of their security cooperation and uphold regional security and stability, Li said.
Emomali said the two heads of state have played a role of strategic guidance in promoting the development of the countries' comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Tajik parliament is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the National People's Congress and play a positive role in bolstering the all-round cooperation between the two countries, he added.
