Heilongjiang train a pipeline for farm workers
As the busy spring season comes to Heilongjiang province, train No 7065 has carried groups of migrant workers move to the Sanjiang Plain for work plowing and transplanting rice seedlings.
Setting off from Harbin's East Railway Station, the train passes several large farms on the plain — Jiansanjiang, Qianjin, Qianfeng, Honghe — and finally arrives at Fuyuan.
As there are not enough farm hands locally to carry out spring plowing, especially for the rice, groups of migrant workers move to the Sanjiang Plain every year.
Given Heilongjiang's climate, the best time for rice transplantation is from May 5 to 25.
"To make a rational and effective train schedule, we are working with surrounding villages and towns to get information about passengers' travel schedules and destinations," said Liu Ming, deputy director of Suihua Railway Station's passenger transport section. "Since 2018, numbers have dropped steadily as mechanized agriculture has increased."
