DPP condemned for 'independence' attempt

A mainland spokeswoman on Monday condemned the ruling Democratic Progressive Party of Taiwan for its attempt to seek "independence" after the Biden administration was reportedly considering allowing the island to include "Taiwan" in its representative office in the United States.
Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, expressed opposition after media reported US President Joe Biden was seriously considering allowing the name of Taiwan's mission in Washington to be changed from "Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office" to "Taiwan Representative Office".
"Taiwan is part of China," Zhu said. "We firmly oppose any form of official lies or establishment of official institutions between the Taiwan region and countries that have diplomatic relations with China."
The DPP administration is doomed to fail no matter what trick it has played for "Taiwan independence", she added.
