Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy responds to the common aspirations of all countries seeking development and progress, and has won widespread support and recognition from the international community, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

Such fresh ideas are in "sharp contrast" with outdated thinking pursuing zero-sum games and power politics, and they offer new theoretical support to the country's diplomacy, Wang said.

He made the comment when attending and addressing a symposium on Monday discussing a recently published book introducing Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy.

The Thought includes a series of ideas, proposals and initiatives covering topics such as security, civilization, ecology, human rights and justice.

Wang said that the Thought helps outline what kind of world China is working to build as well as what kind of international relations the country is working for.

Wang noted that Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, offered a holistic view of the relationship between China and the world and proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind.

Xi, who is also China's president, advocates the common values of humanity, which include peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom. And China, led by Xi, has worked on advancing the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative, bringing fresh opportunities to the world, Wang added.

China will further promote multilateralism and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, Wang said.

Also, the country's diplomatic missions will work to better champion China's sovereignty, security and development interests while bolstering the world's understanding of China's path, system and theories, Wang added.

As guided by the Thought, China will be able to advance its major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era and achieve the goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Wang said.

Wang noted that as guided by Xi, the Party's leadership over diplomacy has improved since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

As a result, a multidimensional, multilevel and wide-ranging global partnership network has taken shape, he said.

China's diplomatic missions have contributed to a greater opening-up of the country as well as mutually beneficial cooperation with other parts of the world while effectively championing national sovereignty, security and development interests, Wang said.

The nation's diplomats have been fighting unilateralism, protectionism and bullying, as well as attacks by anti-China forces regarding topics such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, maritime issues and human rights, he added.

China has remained true to its role as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global growth and a champion of the international order, and Xi has won increasing praise and respect from the world, he said.
