Milan, Roma claim second consecutive wins in Serie A
ROME - Both AC Milan and Roma registered the second consecutive win on Sunday as new summer signings Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham bagged maiden goals for their new clubs in Serie A.
Milan made a fantastic home debut of the new season, overpowering Cagliari 4-1. The Rossoneri opened the scoring account in the 12th minute as Sandro Tonali collected his first goal in Milan jersey from a free-kick.
Despite Joao Pedro's leveler in the 15th minute, Rafael Leao's deflected strike restored the lead just two minutes later.
Giroud then staged his show as the Frenchman extended the lead with an excellent first-time strike in the 24th minute before converting a penalty on the stroke of halftime.
It also took Roma 45 minutes to seal the 4-0 away win over newly-promoted Salernitana.
After a goalless first half, the Giallorossi broke the deadlock straight after the break as Lorenzo Pellegrini fired home from a tight angle.
Roma quickly doubled the lead minutes after a great team move as Jordan Veretout found the net on Henrikh Mkhitaryan's assist.
Abraham added another by smashing in a sensational missile in the 69th minute before Pellegrini put the icing on Roma's cake with a brilliant curler.
Also, on Sunday, Napoli beat Genoa 2-1 away, while Sassuolo shared the spoils with Sampdoria at 0-0.
