Bielsa signs one-year contract extension with Leeds United
LONDON -- Leeds United on Thursday confirmed that coach Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club.
The agreement means that the 66-year-old, who prefers to sign on a year by year basis, will spend a fourth season at the club he joined in 2018, leading them to promotion at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign and a ninth-place finish in their first season back in the Premier League thanks to some swashbuckling attacking football.
"Leeds United are pleased to confirm Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new contract to remain in charge at Elland Road. The Argentine has agreed a fresh one-year deal, running until the end of the 2021-22 season," confirmed Leeds on social media.
Bielsa had already confirmed his willingness to remain at Elland Road saying, "From my point of view, this is an extraordinary club. It's not often you have a club that designates so much volume of investment to the improvement of the training facilities."
"Leeds have made a significant contribution economically to provide the tools for a manager," he commented.
The club have signed left-back Junior Firpo from Barcelona this summer while also completing deals for young players such as Amari Miller, Lewis Bate, Kristoffer Klaesson and Sean McGurk.
"I'm satisfied with the group I'm working with," commented Bielsa when asked whether there would be any more signings before the end of the month.
Leeds kick off their new season with a difficult visit to archrivals Manchester United on Saturday.
