Nanjing Massacre survivor dies at 92
Li Rufu, a 92-year-old Nanjing Massacre survivor, died in Nanjing on Friday, reducing the number of officially registered survivors to 69, according to the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders.
Li once testified that Japanese soldiers shot the leg of one of his elder brothers when the brother was milling rice. One of his uncles, who ran into patrolling Japanese soldiers, was shot when used as a target to test their shooting skills. The uncle lay in bed for about four days before he died.
Li was the third massacre survivor to die this year.
The Nanjing Massacre happened in December 1937 when Japanese troops captured Nanjing on Dec 13 that year and later killed more than 300,000 Chinese civilians and unarmed soldiers over a six-week period.
