China has more than 40,000 travel agencies

BEIJING -- China had a total of 40,682 travel agencies by the end of 2020, statistics from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism showed.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, travel agencies across the country organized about 25.25 million domestic trips, down 49 percent year on year, according to an MCT report on national travel agencies.

The top 10 destinations for domestic visitors during the period were Zhejiang, Hubei, Hainan, Jiangsu, Guizhou, Guangdong, Yunnan, Hunan, Anhui and Shaanxi.

During the Spring Festival holiday starting Thursday, 80 percent of the country's A-level tourist spots will remain open as normal, said the MCT.
