Students, migrant workers get movie treats for Spring Festival

Nearly 30,000 free and low-cost film tickets will be provided by local cinemas to students and workers who choose to stay in Shanghai for the coming Spring Festival.

In response to the Shanghai municipal government's call to reduce the flow of people during the festive period, the number of college students and migrant workers staying in Shanghai is expected to increase significantly this year compared with previous years.

To meet their recreational demands, the city's publicity and film authorities will launch a film screening activity to show free or low-cost Spring Festival movies for college students and migrant workers in Shanghai, including housekeepers, construction and sanitation workers.

The authorities expect 15,000 low-cost film tickets to be given to students from nearly 20 local colleges. Students can watch the Spring Festival blockbusters at 21 Wanda cinemas in the city. Ticket prices will be capped at a maximum of just 9.9 yuan ($1.5).

In addition, 12,000 free movie tickets will be provided to migrant workers in Shanghai, allowing them to catch shows in 19 theaters across the city from Feb 12 to 17.
