Beijing air quality best since measurement began

Beijing's concentration of fine air pollution particles — PM2.5 — averaged 38 micrograms per cubic meter for November, the best air quality for the city over the time pollution has been measured, authorities said this week.

Air quality has continued to improve over the first 11 months this year in the capital, with 245 days of good air quality, 30 more than in the same period last year, according to the Beijing Ecology and Environment Bureau.

Environmental authorities recently published the air quality report from January to November. The PM2.5 averaged 39 micrograms per cubic meter during that time, down 7.1 percent year-on-year.

The Beijing government said it will continue to focus on key sources of pollution, including heavy diesel vehicles, volatile organic compounds and dust, as the city enters the winter season.
