Xi pledges joint efforts to build beautiful world free of poverty


President Xi Jinping made remarks Sunday at Session II of the G20 Riyadh Summit via video link in Beijing.

Joint efforts to build better world free of poverty
China is ready to work with other countries to build a better world that is free of poverty and enjoys common development.
Xi stressed that China has been striving to overcome the impact of COVID-19 and is about to achieve the goal of eliminating absolute poverty, 10 years ahead of schedule set by the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Over the past 40-plus years of reform and opening up, more than 700 million people in China have been lifted out of poverty, contributing more than 70 percent of the global poverty reduction, Xi said.
Improve developing countries' capability of independent poverty reduction
Xi called for improving developing countries' capability of independent poverty reduction.
Efforts should be made to alleviate developing countries' debt burden and continue to provide them with necessary financing support, to improve their capability of independent poverty reduction, he said.
Development holds master key to solving poverty problems
Xi urged putting development agenda front and center in global macro policy coordination.
Led by the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, efforts should be made to strengthen development cooperation and narrow the North-South gap to achieve common development and prosperity, Xi said.
Creating more opportunities for vulnerable groups to shake off poverty
Underscoring the role of digital technology in poverty alleviation, Xi urged efforts to promote digital inclusiveness and create more opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, women, youth and other vulnerable groups to shake off poverty and get prosperous.
