Truck crushes people in Henan; 8 dead, 11 hurt

Eight people have died after a truck carrying rubble overturned on Tuesday afternoon in Shangcheng county, Henan province, the county news center announced on Wednesday. Eleven people were injured in the incident.
The victims had been picking up garlic cloves that had spilled into the road from another truck in Suxianshi town, on the border of Henan and Anhui provinces, it said. The victims lived nearby and had gathered to collect the garlic after hearing about the spill.
At around 4:25 pm on Tuesday, the rubble truck entered Shangcheng county from Anhui province. Upon reaching the people in the road, it rolled over, crushing people underneath.
Two died at the scene, six died later at the hospital. The injured are in stable condition, Wednesday's statement said.
Rescue work concluded at 11 pm on Tuesday. An investigation is underway.
