President Xi Jinping has ordered the nation's police to serve the people wholeheartedly and make every effort to enhance people's sense of fulfillment, happiness and security.

Xi, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remark on Wednesday while addressing a ceremony to confer a special flag on the Chinese people's police at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Under the new historical conditions, Xi said the people's police must be loyal to the Party, impartial in law enforcement and strict in discipline and serve the people.

Xi called the people's police an important force to ensure the country's security administration and criminal justice. He said its missions are to safeguard national security, uphold social stability, protect people's lives, freedom and legitimate property as well as public property, and prevent, restrain and punish violations of the law and criminal activities.

Xi asked police to resolutely follow the instructions and command of the CPC, adhere to the people-centered philosophy, uphold a holistic view of national security and protect people's interests.

He underlined the importance of upholding social fairness and justice and urged police to strengthen training and oversight in law enforcement and keep improving the credibility of law enforcement and the judiciary.

Efforts should be made to allow the people to enjoy fairness and justice in every case in which they are involved, Xi added.

The red and blue flag for the people's police is seen as a symbol of its professional development.
