China reports zero major accidents, natural disasters in May Day holiday

BEIJING - China reported zero major accidents and natural disasters as of 6 pm Tuesday, the last day of the five-day May Day holiday, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
Compared with the average level of the same period over the past five years, the number of deaths and missing and direct economic losses caused by disasters declined by 83 percent and 69 percent, respectively, the ministry said.
During the holiday, some 127,300 firefighters across the country participated in more than 11,200 fire extinguishing and emergency tasks, rescuing 1779 trapped people.
