Mainland reports over 100 new confirmed cases of coronavirus

Chinese mainland reported 108 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and two deaths on Sunday, bringing the two numbers to 82,160 and 3,341, respectively, statistics from the National Health Commission show on Monday.

The two fatalities occurred in Hubei province, the commission said, adding there were another six new suspected cases reported Sunday, all from abroad.

A total of 72 people are still suspected of being infected with the virus, all from the abroad, and there are 1,156 confirmed cases across the country.

For newly confirmed cases, 98 of them were imported from abroad and the northeastern province Heilongjiang reported seven local cases and southern province Guangdong reported three.

As of Sunday, China had 1,378 imported confirmed cases, 511 of them have been cured and discharged from hospital, and 38 are still in severe condition.

Regarding asymptomatic cases, the official data showed there were 61 new such cases reported on Sunday, 12 of which were imported from abroad.

Twenty-eight asymptomatic cases were confirmed on Sunday, all from abroad.

A total of 1,064 asymptomatic-infected patients, including 307 from abroad, are still under medical observation. Fifty-five such patients were released from the observation on Sunday.

On Sunday, 88 people were discharged after recovery, while the number of severe cases fell by 18 to 121. A total of 77,663 people had been discharged from hospitals after recovery as of Sunday.

Health authorities on the mainland have traced 719,908 people with close contact with confirmed patients. Among them, 1,092 were discharged from medical observation Sunday, with 9,655 others still under observation.

By the end of Sunday, 1,004 confirmed cases, including four deaths, had been reported in Hong Kong, 45 confirmed cases in Macao and 388 in Taiwan, including six deaths. And 360 patients in Hong Kong, 13 in Macao and 109 in Taiwan have been discharged after recovery.

Hubei, the hardest-hit province on the Chinese mainland, reported zero new confirmed cases and suspected cases on Sunday. The province also has zero suspected cases at present.

As of Sunday, a total of 67,803 confirmed cases and 3,221 deaths have been reported in Hubei. It still has 244 confirmed cases, including 75 in severe condition.

The province also saw 57 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Sunday, bringing the total number of discharged patients in the province to 64,338.
