Science City latest vision for Guangzhou
Guangzhou Science City — outlined recently in an action plan by Guangdong province — is envisioned as a future smart manufacturing center of China and an international technological innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
It is also expected to be a leading high-quality manufacturing center in the country.
The proportion of GDP represented by research and development is projected to grow to more than 6 percent by 2023 in Guangzhou Science City, which will be located in Guangzhou's Huangpu district.
It will have more than 100 novel R&D institutions and State-level corporate innovation platforms, with at least one large-scale scientific facility and more than 10 research institutions in the network of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Under the plan, by 2023 Guangzhou Science City should stand in the leading ranks of major innovation indicators for State-level high-tech parks, the plan said.
International cooperation will be enhanced and the science city will serve as a base for employment and entrepreneurial projects for people from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.
