China's 1st female tractor driver dies

However, after three months' study, Liang mastered the mechanical principles of driving a tractor and from then on, she began to engage in cultivating wasteland in Heilongjiang.
In September 1950, when she was 20 years old, Liang was awarded the title of National Model Worker and met former Chairman Mao Zedong in Beijing.
Upon graduating with a college degree in the mid-1950s, she worked first as an engineer, then headed a number of factories making or repairing farming machines.
In 1958, the People's Bank of China came out with the third set of renminbi banknotes. The banknote design for 1 yuan featured a female tractor driver based on a photo of Liang.
"They told me that I was the woman on the banknote, and I really felt greatly honored. But I think the woman represented all of the working women in China," said Liang in the interview with China Daily in 2013.
After retiring in 1990, she had been actively participating in various social activities, such as giving speeches at civil organizations and schools to tell her stories and legendary experience.
"My mother was always proud of being China's first female tractor driver," Wang said. "She has been a good example for me in my life."
