The International Olympic Committee's (IOC's) Executive Committee has decided to allocate $5 million to store pre-game testing samples for up to 10 years.

IOC president Thomas Bach had announced the plan at the recent World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Fifth World Conference on Doping in Sport in Katowice, Poland and the Executive Board (EB) Tuesday approved a budget of $500 million for this project to be managed by the International Testing Agency.

According to the project, samples collected by International Federations and National Anti-Doping Organizations ahead of the Tokyo Olympics will be stored for up to 10 years.

The IOC estimated there could be 22,000 samples to be kept within the program which is to supplement the Tokyo 2020 Olympics pre-Games testing program.
