URUMQI -- The number of tourists to northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region exceeded 200 million from January to October this year, up 42.62 percent year on year, local authorities said.

The tourism revenue in the first 10 months of 2019 reached 341.73 billion yuan (about $48.7 billion), up 43.39 percent from the same period last year, reaching a record high, according to the regional culture and tourism department.

With diverse ethnic culture and unique landscapes, Xinjiang has vowed to build itself into a popular destination for tourists from home and abroad.

A series of measures have been taken, such as improving infrastructure construction, tackling parking problems and ensuring stable mobile phone signals for tourists.

"Winter is coming, and Xinjiang will enrich winter tourism products and ensure smooth traffic flow to attract more tourists to enjoy the beautiful winter scenery of Xinjiang," said Wu Feng, head of the Association of Xinjiang Travel Service.
