China strongly condemns US bill meddling in HK affairs
China on Thursday expressed indignation and opposition to a Hong Kong-related bill approved by a United States congressional committee, saying it grossly interfered with China's internal affairs.
The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act, reviewed and approved by the US Senate and House Foreign Affairs Committees, disregarded the facts, called white black, and propped up radical and violent forces in Hong Kong, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in an online statement.
It revealed the evil intentions of some people in the US to disrupt Hong Kong and contain China's development, Geng said.
China urged the US to immediately stop pushing the bill, and stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs so as to avoid damaging Sino-US relations, he said.
The relevant bill will only embolden the radical and violent forces in Hong Kong and mess up the region, which will harm the interests of China as well as the US, he said.
Any move made by Washington to undermine China's interests will receive a forceful fight back from Beijing, he added.
