Spokesperson of the Commissioner's Office: Photos of American Politicians with 'Hong Kong independence' Activists are the Best Evidence for US Interference
It is reported that American politicians including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senator Marco Rubio and Representative Jim McGovern have threatened to introduce a Hong Kong human rights and democracy act, met with activists clamoring for so-called "Hong Kong independence" such as Joshua Wong, Denise Ho and Sunny Cheung, and invited them to testify at a Hong Kong-related hearing. They have openly colluded with and manipulated the latter, and flagrantly meddled with Hong Kong affairs, which are China's domestic affairs. In response, the spokesperson of the Commissioner's Office expressed indignation and firm opposition, pointing out that although the US tries hard to whitewash itself, what its politicians have said and done have said it all and provided the most solid evidence for the US being the "black hand" behind the scenes.
The spokesperson said that the situation of human rights and freedoms in Hong Kong cannot be easily smeared. According to the Canadian Fraser Institute's latest Human Freedom Index, the performance of Hong Kong, which ranks third in the world, is far better than that of the US, which ranks 17th. The Hong Kong police are internationally acclaimed for their restrained and civilized enforcement of law, while the US keeps a notoriously poor record of human rights and freedoms. What right, we wonder, does the US have to allege that Hong Kong lacks human rights and freedoms? Non-intervention has been written in the UN Charter and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Even as some American congressmen accuse other countries of interfering in their internal affairs, they are openly colluding with racial separatists in other countries, pointing fingers at and arbitrarily meddling with others' internal affairs. Such a sheer application of double standard is simply despicable.
The spokesperson emphasized that no one should ever underestimate the will and capability of the Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots, to defend prosperity and stability of Hong Kong, and that any plot to mess up the city is doomed to fail. Either American politicians who want to play Hong Kong as a card or separatists betraying their countries for personal benefit will only shoot themselves in their foot.
