International design festival commences in Beijing
The 751 International Design Festival kicked off Tuesday at the 751D·PARK in Beijing.
Over 300 people, including government officials, famous designers from home and abroad, and officials from design institutes, attended the opening ceremony.
A part of the ongoing Beijing Design Week, the event, themed A Better City, will feature more than 40 projects including forums, marketplaces, exhibitions and interactive activities.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Beijing establishing a link as a sister city of Mexico City.
Organizers have this year teamed up with a delegation in Mexico City – a guest city of the event – to hold a day paying tribute to the upcoming anniversary of Mexico’s foundation and the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
In addition to Mexico City, the embassies of Poland, the Netherlands, South Korea and Australia have also been involved in this event. People who like Korean culture can experience Korean traditional food production during Mid-Autumn Festival.
During this event, China’s first carnival brand “Woodstock” will return along with the "Partner's Day"; the ancient forest nomadic Ewenki will showcase the intangible cultural heritage of the marketplaces for the first time; and young cross-border designer Lu Xiaowu will brings his new sculptural work- “Spoon and Eat” series, according to the sponsor.
A highlight is a forum on Sept 11 on urban renewal and development. It explored the history and changes of the city from the micro perspective of industrial heritage and discovered the future of the city in the era of stock economy.
The 751 International Design Festival runs until Sept 16.
