Hong Kong police said it seized a large number of fake press cards and detained six men and two women in a raid on Saturday in Sai Wan.
Police said the find gives credence to the suspicion some protesters were impersonating members of the press to hinder police operations in recent violent clashes.
Separately, police seized a range of items commonly used by protesters in a hotel in Causeway Bay on Saturday noon.
These items included helmets, gas masks and HK$40,000 in cash. Three men believed to be connected with the find were detained.
