1,000 tonnes of smuggled sugar seized in East China

NANJING- Customs authorities in the city of Jiangyin, East China's Jiangsu province have busted a sugar-smuggling case, confiscating over 1,000 tonnes of sugar and arresting nine suspects, local customs said.
The officials also seized one ship and mobile phones and bank cards related to the case. The case is currently under investigation.
Jiangyin customs officials have stepped up their efforts to crack down on sugar smuggling this year.
So far, they have busted five sugar-smuggling cases and seized about 2,700 tonnes of sugar this year.
