Statistics show that, of the 2.65 million records of human leukocyte antigens with the China Marrow Donor Program, over 8,500 have lead to successful national matches and just 100 have resulted in second donations.

However Li insisted on a second donation despite the fact that he needed more time to recover from the first operation.

After the second donation, the recipient wrote a letter to Li expressing deep gratitude, saying, "although we never met, your unselfish love brought me the hope of life. Thank you, my benefactor from far away!"
