Pornography targeted in online cleanup efforts

Cyberspace administrators have been working together with relevant authorities to clean the internet of pornographic content in order to offer young people a healthy online environment.
A batch of websites with such violations have been punished, including being ordered to rectify their problems or even being shut down, the Cyberspace Administration of China, the country's top internet watchdog, said in a release on Friday.
To ensure a healthier online environment, many online video platforms have recently launched an anti-addiction system for adolescents. The administration said it is also mulling a regulation to protect the private information of children, and has released the draft for public opinions.
The administration also announced on Friday that since it launched a campaign against harmful online information at the beginning of this year, more than 110 million pieces of harmful information related to pornography, fraud and gambling had been deleted by June 12.
About 1.18 million online accounts which had spread porn or rumors, and 4,644 problematic websites with related offenses were closed during the period of time, it said.
Cyberspace administrators have also handed over to the police a batch of cases suspected of violating criminal laws, according to the Cyberspace Administration of China.
