Wind Rises from the Sea, an exhibition to feature artworks by teachers of East China Normal University's fine arts college, in Shanghai, will open on May 18 at Beijing's Times Art Museum.

The exhibition, which will run through May 28, will celebrate the second anniversary of the college's establishment by hailing the spirit of originality and devotion to art education by the faculty. On show will be paintings, sculptures, calligraphy, installations and new media works.

Shanghai was one of the birth places of modern Chinese art, where, at the turn of the 20th century, artists renovated classic Chinese painting techniques and introduced oil painting to renew the landscape of Chinese art at the time.

The exhibition also offers a glimpse of the recent developments in Shanghai's art communities.

A forum will also be held on the opening day at which critics and dealers from home and abroad will address how contemporary artists can better cater to changing social needs.
