"China has a very rich and old culture, which has fascinated most foreigners for many years. And so is the case with me," said Danish ambassador to China, Carsten Damsgaard, on his love of Chinese culture.

Particularly interested in the art and design of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the ambassador spoke highly of traditional Chinese wooden furniture and the craftsmanship involved in creating it.

"This has also been a great inspiration for the famous Danish architects from the mid-century," he said. "From some of their masterpieces, you can see very clear inspiration from a Ming chair, for example."

The ambassador said that he thinks China is home to some of the world's most interesting and best contemporary artists. "This is an area in which I'm still discovering new things every month."

To further promote mutual understanding between our two peoples, the ambassador highlighted the importance of tourism. "I expect there will be many more Chinese people as tourists in Denmark," he said.
