Portrait of a friend

Stitches of Time, an exhibition in Wuhan, Hubei province, gathers portraits made by more than 70 artists of varying ages and living in different places, over a time span of more than two decades. The subject of their works is the same person they are all friendly with, Yan Hong, a writer, publisher and curator who has been active in the art community for years.
The works on show include oil, ink, watercolor, installation, image and digital forms, revealing the influence of time passing on a person's face and her inner side.
But portraiture has always been more than figurative re-creation. The works also offer a glimpse of the relations between the creators and their model, and meanwhile, evoke among the audience a thought on how they themselves have responded to ever-changing social realities.
The exhibition is held at the Goose Corporation Gallery, through to Aug 11.
