Chengdu making big push to promote fashion-related events
A recent event in Beijing to promote the upcoming China Fashion Week, Chengdu, showcased the city as one of the most dynamic when it comes to consumption of consumer goods.
The event organized by the publicity unit of the Chengdu municipal committee aims to attract more people to join the local fashion industry.
Xia Lingmin, the vice-president of China National Textile And Apparel Council; Zhang Qinghui, the president of China Fashion Association, and Tang Zilan, the executive vice-president of the Chengdu International Fashion Federation, attended the event.
At the event, it was announced that in 2018 Chengdu achieved a total of 680 billion yuan in retail sales of consumer goods, up 10 percent year onyear and was ranked among the top five cities in China.
The spending power of the city has attracted many international brands to open retail shops there. And over the last year, Chengdu has seen 200 new shops in the city, located in the southwestern region of China.
Separately Chengdu is also holding large-scale fashion events including the Chengdu International Fashion Week, which was held in November. And international brands including Chloe, Stella McCartney, Sportmax and Etro have also held fashion shows there.
Tang also says that the 2019 Chengdu Fashion Week is one of three priority events to to promote economic growth there. And that the federation will make special efforts to promote fashion-related businesses there.
