Chinese professor co-authors article on circular economy

A research article on how to globalize the circular economy with a Chinese as its main author was published on Nature on Jan 10.

Supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the research paper How to Globalize the Circular Economy was jointly written by Geng Yong, a professor from the school of environmental science and engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Joseph Sarkis, a professor from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in United States, and Raimund Bleischwitz, a professor from University College London in the United Kingdom.

According to the article, improper exploitation and utilization of resources have become a stumbling block for economic development and there is now an urgent need to implement sustainable resource management in the development plans for cities.

The researchers have encouraged the construction of a global database to control and monitor the storage and consumption of resources, as well as the establishment of an international platform to share data and experiences.

In terms of policy, the researchers have called for the development of international standards for the reporting and calculation of a circular economy's development.
