FUZHOU -- More than 300 museums, including the National Museum of China and the Palace Museum, are taking part in a biennial museum expo in China.

The 8th Chinese Museums and Relevant Products and Technologies Exposition opened in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province on Friday and will last until Monday.

The expo features museums and museum-related cultural enterprises, showcasing their history, progress and exchanges over the past decades.

"Museums have become an inseparable part of the Chinese people's cultural life after 40 years of reform and opening-up," said Liu Yuzhu, head of the National Cultural Heritage Administration. "This expo allows us to check the progress of museums and encourage them to further develop."

Since its inception in 2004, the expo has become a key platform for China's museums to exchange ideas and enhance cooperation.

A highlight of this year's expo is the inauguration of a section dedicated to private museums. More than 100 private museums have set up stands to showcase their achievements in cultural relic research, museum operation and development of creative cultural products.

A series of activities such as lectures for children and teenagers are also being arranged.
