Yanqing passionate about winter sport as host of 2022 Olympic Games
On the eve of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games, Beijing is showcasing its enthusiasm for winter sports as host of the 2022 Games.
A snow hiking event has been held in Beijing's northwestern district of Yanqing, which will be hosting the Alpine skiing competitions.
Dong Liang, deputy head of Yanqing, says the hiking event has become an icon for the district.
"Yanqing is seeing an increasing number of winter sport competitions, and they have become successful brands. The Snow Hiking event is gradually becoming a new highlight as Yanqing attempts to transform itself into a winter resort. We will offer all-round support for the event to make it more attractive," Dong said.
Over 2000 participants demonstrated their passion for winter sports and expressed their expectation for the Winter Olympic Games by completing a 7-kilometer hike on snow-covered ground.
