Experts assess transforming national geopark into world geopark in Sichuan

With more than 2,000 types of plants and more than 400 types of animals, the park has abundant resources and is said to be the gene bank of species in Northern Sichuan.

"Thanks to the lush vegetation and good geographical and metrological environment, the park is a home to a lot of much wildlife," Zhang Xiaojie, president of the Sichuan Guangwushan Tourism Development Co Ltd, said.

Currently, the park has one geopark museum, five scientific trekking paths and 16 viewing platforms, according to the park management authority.

To further develop geologic tourism, the Nanjiang county also upgraded some infrastructures at the site, including roads and tourism service facilities. The Tieluba Tourists Service Center and a parking lot have also been constructed, and the roads linking Guangwushan and Nuoshuihe, along with Shanghuitan and Nuoshuihe, were renovated, according to the local government.
