KUNMING -- Chen Hao was elected Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Southwest China's Yunnan province at a plenary session of the provincial CPC committee.

Chen, born in 1954, is a native of the eastern province of Jiangsu.

Chen was relieved from his post as governor of Yunnan earlier this month.

He was transferred from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions to Yunnan province in 2014 and named governor last year.

Before Chen, a native of Jiangsu province, began working for the federation in 2010, he held positions in government departments in Jiangsu and Shanghai.
