Jan 10-21, 1985: NPC session sets Teachers' Day

On Jan 10-21, 1985, the Ninth Session of the Sixth National People's Congress was held in Beijing.
This session approved the proposal by the State Council on the establishment of the Teachers' Day, declaring the tenth of September every year Teacher's Day.
On the first Teacher's Day, Li Xiannian, as president, sent a congratulatory letter to teachers across the nation.
On the same day, a grand gathering was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the State Education Commission, the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the National Education Labour Union, and other institutions.
