Xi meets Iranian president

Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in Jakarta Thursday morning, with the two sides reaffirming their willingness to further develop their ties.

The two leaders are in Indonesia attending the Asian-African Summit and activities marking the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, from Tuesday to Friday.

Xi said he has developed "good working relationship" with Rouhani since the two have met many times during the past 2 years.

"We leaders of the two countries have maintained close contact, which reflects the importance that both countries attach to the relationship," Xi said in the opening remarks, adding that China cherishes the traditional friendship and places high importance on developing their bilateral ties.

Rouhani, speaking through a translator, echoed Xi, saying that the two countries have a long friendship, and have many common goals in their bilateral and regional cooperation affairs.

The two are expected to discuss the development of the Iran nuclear talks and bilateral cooperation during a 30-minute meeting.
