MOSCOW - An oil rig with 76 people on board has overturned and sunk in the Sea of Okhotsk in Russia's Far East region, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Sunday.

No word on survivors is immediately available.

The Russia Today (RT) news channel, which put the number of personnel on board at 67, reported that a distress signal was sent while the platform was being towed by an icebreaker amid high waves and strong winds.

The rig is about 200 km off Sakhalin Island, according to the RT.
