YANGON - Myanmar state-run radio and television on Tuesday announced releasing 6,359 prisoners from Wednesday under Myanmar President's amnesty order.

Myanmar President U Thein Sein signed the order to free those with the terms of good conduct and discipline, old-aged prisoners, ill-health and handicapped prisoners in social consideration of their families and as a gesture of showing sympathy towards their families, the report said.

Under the amnesty order, the release of the prisoners was aimed to enable them to serve the country in their own ways, it added.

The new govenment's amnesty grant is the second time in a year since it took office on March 30 this year.

In May, the government freed a total of 14,758 prisoners nationwide.
