YANGON- Myanmar Human Rights Commission has requested President U Thein Sein to grant amnesty to the prisoners in an open letter published in an official daily Tuesday.
It said that the release of those prisoners who do not pose a threat to the stability of state and public tranquility will enable them to participate in whatever way in the nation-building tasks, the New Light of Myanmar said.
Myanmar's new elected government formed a 15-member national human rights commission on September 5, chaired by retired ambassador U Win Mya.
A total of 14,758 prisoners nationwide were freed on May 17 this year according to the amnesty order after Myanmar's new government took office on March 30.
